Elizabeth makes elaborate paper cuts and book arts. Her paper cuts are made with an exacto knife and paper folding, and are often a surprise when they are opened up. Her book arts take old books and deconstruct them to make new works of art. She also makes new books through creative book binding, from piano bindings to Coptic stitch and Japanese bindings. As a paper artist, she is always pushing what she can do with paper--papercutting, making paper and then weaving them into new book ideas.
“I love to create handmade books! I love the entire process—first, constructing the book, finding the words, and then decorating the page”.
Liz learned her trades through classes and experimentation, and continues to learn as she teaches others. She teaches out of her studio, from youth to adults, paper cutting to binding to creative book arts.
