Nancy Streeter’s interest in nature is revealed by re-creating wildlife in wood. Her wood carvings of animals caught in motion, sometimes whimsical, sometimes realistic, provide a peek into nature. Her creations are unique and require many hours of work. During the holidays she turns to creating unique Santas and other holiday works.
Nancy is primarily self-taught. While she was a girl scout, she had experiences with craft kits and sewing, but was bored using someone else’s design. With wood carving, she finds she can capture something individual while carving in basswood, which is fine grained with few knots.
While Nancy has spent much time observing animals for her carvings, from squirrels to cats, her favorites to carve are bears, “Charismatic Megafauna, endangered species like a grizzly, not a bug!”
